Installing a fixed air conditioner is a process best left to a professional.
Here is an overview of the procedure in 8 steps, so you know what to expect.
1. Determining the Location
Together with the installer, you determine the best location for the indoor and outdoor units. Important factors include the layout of the rooms, the type of indoor unit (wall-mounted, floor-mounted, or built-in model), and the length of the pipes. Ensure that the airflow from the indoor unit is not obstructive and that the wall is strong enough to support the unit.
2. Installing the Indoor Unit
The installer mounts the indoor unit and drills an opening for the electrical wiring, refrigerant pipes, and condensate drain. Wall and floor models are fixed with a frame, while built-in models are concealed in a dropped ceiling or false wall.
3. Installing the Outdoor Unit
Using a frame, the installer places the outdoor unit in the chosen location outside your home.
4. Laying the Pipes
The installer lays insulated copper pipes for the refrigerant. Usually, holes need to be drilled in the exterior wall to connect the pipes to the outdoor unit. There are various options for laying the pipes, using a technical cable tray or a chased route in the walls or floor slab. Cable ducts have the advantage of keeping everything neatly concealed and the pipes safe.
5. Installing the Power Cables
In addition to the refrigerant pipes, the installer also provides power cables. The outdoor unit is connected to the power grid and supplies power to the indoor unit(s).
6. Providing the Condensate Drain
An air conditioner produces condensate water. For each indoor unit, the installer must provide a drain pipe. In renovations, a condensate pump can also be installed.
7. Testing and Filling the Air Conditioner
The installer carries out a pressure test with nitrogen and then vacuums the circuit to remove all the air and humidity inside the pipes. If necessary, refrigerant is added. Finally, the entire system is tested.
8. Cleaning Up
Installing an air conditioner inevitably involves some drilling work. Our technicians use a connected vacuum cleaner to minimise dust as much as possible. We always try to leave everything neat and tidy for the customer, but working completely dust-free is not possible. It is advisable to clean the furniture after installation. Then you can enjoy your brand-new installation.
