Does Air Conditioning Heat as Well as Cool?

Many people buy an air conditioner to keep their home cool during the summer, but as the weather gets colder, we often hear the question, “Can I use my AC to heat my room in winter?”

The good news is that all modern air conditioners are designed to both heat and cool, but this isn’t always the case.

But be careful. If you install at your house a multi split system, all the internal units must be on heat mode. Otherwise the system will send you an error mal-function.

How to Switch to Heating Mode?

All air conditioning units have a heating option.

Check your infrared remote control, or the wall control (if you have a ducted system), to see which icon appears. For example, if a “Snowflake” icon is displayed, it means the system is set to cool. If a “Sun” icon appears, it means the system is set to heat.

If you have an outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units, check the icons on the displays of all remote controls for the indoor units. Set all controls to heating mode until the “Sun” symbol appears. After this, you can use the system to heat your home.
